You know you're gold, you don't gotta worry none

Don't I know you better than the rest?

The atmosphere was a slightly yellow hue from heat and an impending storm, but Seamus paid no attention. He really didn’t appear to be paying attention to anything at that moment, but his ears were strained to pick up any sound, and his eyes would occasionally stray from side to side. He wasn’t looking for anyone in particular, he didn’t really know a lot of people and those that he did weren’t particularly worth meeting up with just to hang out, but he didn’t want to be caught unaware. The young man seemed to be concentrating intently on the ground as he walked; his brow was slightly furrowed and he kept his head down, no matter which way his eyes drifted.
Lightning illuminated a far horizon, one, two, three, four, five, six, seven, eight, he counted the seconds until the thunder; the storm was still far off. That was lucky for him, because as much as he was growing tired of the dusty ground with a few thirsty blades of grass and weeds struggling to survive that surrounded him, he really didn’t want to get drenched. Seamus twitched slightly as another clap of thunder, this time a bit closer, reached his ears. Un-phased by the storm, it was east of him and he was heading north, he continued on his way to… nowhere.
That was a little bit more phasing, perhaps. Seamus knew it wasn’t a good idea to walk off into the Open Lands with no destination, but somehow that’s exactly what he found himself doing. Sometimes he felt like he was walking in a dream, like the world moved in slow motion for a few heartbeats and he could create anything he wanted out of the universe. However, as much as this felt like some kind of dream (the sky even looked the same, the wind had the same smell), he knew it wasn’t, so he’d have to figure out where he was going sooner or later.
Seamus stopped walking after pondering where he should go for a while to take a better look around. The sun was progressing steadily toward the western horizon (or at least what was visible of it behind the growing cloud banks), and sooner rather than later it would be getting dark. The man became uneasy at the realization; if it got too dark to see well he’d probably get lost. Without any distinguishing landmarks out here he had no way to tell if he was going in a straight line when the sun was down.
The idea of sleeping out in the open wasn’t exactly a good one, but he’d rather do that than lose his way. Seamus resolved to continue on until he either met someone or it got too dark to continue walking. Maybe if he was really fortunate he would come to at least some sort of town before either of those events, but he wasn’t counting on it.
